"Golden" days in Sportgastein
Lake Knappenbäuelsee is at an altitude of 2,239 m.
Festive atmosphere in Sportgastein on 19th and 20th July
On these two ‘golden’ days, everything in Sportgastein revolves around the subject ‘gold’: guided hikes, games for children and gold-washing! The Goldberg lift is in operation!
The 2,686m Kreuzkogel is the highest peak in the Radhausberg massif and in former times it blessed the people here with a real gold rush. Today the people of Gastein still celebrate the ‘Day of Gold’ in memory of this gold-mining tradition.
Take advantage of the unique opportunity on these festive days and ride up to the Kreuzkogel on the Goldberg lift. For, up there where things are really alpine and guided theme hikes begin, a fascinating panorama unfolds with the surrounding mountains and vegetation that can only be found at these altitudes. Particularly impressive is the springtime gentian, also known as cobbler’s nail, spread like a blue carpet over the barren earth.
