Hohe Tauern National Park

Mountain enthusiasts find some of the most beautiful scenery in Europe in the Hohe Tauern National Park!

Experience nature firsthand

With 1,836 km2, the Hohe Tauern National Park is the largest national park in the Alps. During August the Nassfeld region invites you to visit its ‛Nature Days’. These provide a wonderful insight into the unique natural and cultural landscape.

The Hohe Tauern range with its 266 peaks over 3,000m, 130km² of glaciers, around 1,000 crystal clear mountain lakes and its breathtaking flora and fauna, is one of the most beautiful and impressive high altitude regions in the world. Since 2006 the Hohe Tauern National Park has also gained international recognition.

Located in the midst of this fascinating array of nature are 19 picturesque national park resorts, one of which is Bad Gastein. The high alpine Nassfeld area borders directly on the national park.

“Experiencing nature, accompanied by well trained rangers, is in the foreground of our activities such as summer and theme hikes”, explains Wolfgang Urban, manager at the National Park . “Natural wonders present themselves to hiking enthusiasts particularly on the kilometre long hiking trails“, Urban continues, “from peaceful paths in the valley to alpine trekking tours.”.
With the mountain backdrop of the National Park, ‘Nature Days’ also take place on 23rd and 24th August in the Nassfeld region. National Park members of staff will provide on-the-spot information at small displays and will speak about the alpine flora and fauna with the aid of models.
